The head coach of Juventus has revealed that Giacombo Bonaventsura is out for at least a month due to a neck problem.
The 29-year-old had surgery on Wednesday to remove a small piece of bone from his neck and he will be sidelined for several weeks.
The incident happened during Juve’s 4-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
“We have to be very careful, there is a chance that it could become a problem for him for a long time,” Juventus sporting director Claudio Lotito said in a statement.
After the match, the player said that he had to get his neck checked because he was feeling dizzy and “feverish” and was unable to go out for the rest of the game.
LaGazzetta dello Sport claims that Bonavento underwent surgery on Thursday morning, but the coach confirmed that the injury was not serious and he is expected to be out until at least the end of the month.
Bonaventures injury was first identified when it was revealed that he suffered a shoulder injury during Juventus’ 3-0 defeat to Juventus on April 20, 2015.
He had a scan on Monday and was advised to have surgery on his neck.
Juve currently sit seventh in Serie A and have the second best goal difference in the league.
According to Luxembourg’s Football Observatory, Bonaventeres age is 32.
The midfielder is currently on international duty with Argentina and Italy but he has not played since April 20 due to the injury.
