Posted December 08, 2018 17:02:55 A recent survey found that the average cost of a plastic surgery operation was $30,000.
However, if you are having a gastric bypass, the average is $60,000 and if you’re having a tongue tie surgery you’re paying up to $110,000, according to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.
“It’s the sort of thing where if you were to go to your GP, it’s something that they could prescribe you and you’d go, ‘Oh, well that’s a lot of money’,” Dr Alan Gee, the chief executive of the AITW, said.

“But we do recommend that if you’ve got any concerns about your appearance, that you do seek professional advice,” Dr Gee said.
“If you’re looking to get surgery to repair skin tone or a different colour to your skin, we wouldn’t recommend it.”
But Dr Gae says it’s also important to be wary of what people are telling you.
“Some of these things are very, very, quite negative, and they can actually actually be causing problems for you in the long run,” he said.
If you’ve been given a referral to a plastic surgeon, or you’ve received one in the past, you may want to talk to a doctor.
“I would also encourage people to speak to their GP to see if there are any particular procedures that are being considered,” Dr Kavita Rau, chief executive officer of the Australian Cosmetic Surgery Association, said in a statement.
“They can ask a few questions and find out whether or not they can do some of the procedures that they would normally have to go through.”
If they do, we’d encourage them to refer other people who may be in a similar situation, so that they don’t have to have surgery on their own.
